RIGF 2019 participants will receive the book, “An Introduction to Internet Governance”

On April 8, 2019 the 10th Russian Internet Governance Forum (RIGF 2019) will open in Moscow. Speeches by Russian and world internet experts, discussions of the most pressing issues on internet development and meetings with public officials, representatives of internet business, experts, technical specialists, managers and employees of civil society organizations will all be part of the forum.

Each year an international internet expert gives a lecture on internet governance at the forum. This time the talk will be given by Jovan Kurbalija, member of the UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on Digital Cooperation and author of the book, “An Introduction to Internet Governance.” A translation of the book’s seventh edition was published in the fall of 2018 and the Coordination Center for TLD .RU was directly involved in it. Jovan Kurbalija will talk about the evolution of the internet and the internet governance system. All RIGF 2019 participants will be presented with his book.

The session, “New Technologies at the Service of People. A look into the Future,” will focus on key technological trends and international experience in new technologies with an emphasis on artificial intelligence, and will include a discussion on regulations and ethical issues on the internet, review a current situation regarding artificial intelligence in Russia and the world, and map out ways to develop new technologies. Maxim Fedorov (Skoltech) and Alexander Krainov (Yandex) will take part in this session, among others. It will be moderated by Yevgeny Kuznetsov (Digital Evolution Ventures).

This will be the first time that women’s role on the internet will be discussed at RIGF. The session, “Women: Leaders in the IT industry. Success stories,” will help the audience understand what contribution women are making to internet development. The session will be moderated by Anna Nesterova (Global Rus Trade) and attended by Galina Karelova (Federation Council), Olga Cavalli (South School on Internet Governance) and Nina Angelovska (Macedonian eCommerce Association), to name a few. The participants will discuss how raising digital literacy is linked to the development of female entrepreneurship, why women have become indispensable for encouraging inclusive economic growth and what opportunities e-commerce offers to women.

The RIGF program will have several more interesting sessions as well as other events related to the 25th anniversary of the Russian national domain. Follow our updates!
